It's time to start gearing up for our September readathon! Here's all the quick facts:

  • What is a readathon? A readathon is a special event that is a week long where we read books according to a theme and show off our planners in the Creating & Co Book Club!
  • Estimated last day to order items: Aug 26th (Due to possible delays, this is not an exact date)
  • Readathon Dates: Monday, September 16th-22nd
  • Location: Creating & Co Book Club (or you can follow along on Instagram and do it on your own)
  • # of Prompts: 5 challenge prompts
  • Giveaway Info: There will be at least 3 chances to win shop credit in the Facebook group throughout the week
  • Group Read: TBA, will vote in the book club group
  • Bundle Info: The bundle for this theme will include the vertical kit, the readathon kit, and the extra sheet of reading stickers for $21.95!

Okay so I have to admit something - this readathon started as a totally different theme but while I was brainstorming for the kit, it turned into this theme and OH MY GOD I love it so much! I don't think I've been this excited for a readathon in a long time.

I already feel like I'm going to need to save multiple copies of this kit so I can use it at other times too.

Anyway, let's get into it. What is a better theme to do for a September readathon than an academia set? This kit is PERFECT for that vibe and I love the vibes of a college library filled with antique books and a place for students to practice music or play strategy games like chess.

This theme will be release this Friday on 8/2/24 at 12pmCST along with another kit theme I think you're going to love and some new functional stuff (and some new vinyls -- which I'll show you on social media this week!)

This blog post is going to go over all the info you need plus answer some frequently asked questions that I get about our readathons!

A readathon is an event that is a week long where we read books fitting the theme -- the idea is to find books that fit the various prompts! During the week of the event, we have reading sprints in the book club group, chat about books and track our goal progress! Oh, and of course we show off our planners and enter some giveaways!

Our readathons have five prompts. For each book you read that fits a prompt, simply fill in the title and rating and then using one of the floral books to cover a grayed out book on the page. You can read one book per prompt or find books that fit multiple prompts

Here are the prompts:

  • Learning Something: a character goes to school, has training or learns a new skill. Alternate: nonfiction/self improvement or you learn something new!
  • Secondhand/Borrowed: a book you bought second hand or borrowed from someone else or the library. Alternate: a book you’ve read before
  • Musical Elements: the plot has some kind of musical element - a character plays an instrument or performs music. Alternate: you listen to music while you read
  • Taking a Chance: a book where a character takes a leap or faith or leaves behind their life for a new one. Alternate: a book you aren’t sure you’re going to love but you’re trying it anyway
  • Group Read/Free Space: We will vote for a group read in the Creating & Co Book Club to discuss during the event in the group from 9/16-9/22

If you have another way to interpreting the prompts, you can change it up! I won't police your book picks so feel free to make them work for you! You can also ask for recommendations or suggestions in the facebook group and we'll have posts that allow for book recs too.

For the week of, you can deck out your planner with the weekly kit or just celebrate the theme for a day or two or fill in a page in your journal. We'll be releasing our vertical version (shown here), but also a deco version and some other stickers that fit the color palette and theme so you can use it across all your planners and notebooks!

Each of our 2024 reading challenges and events will have a badge sticker that you can use with our Reading Challenge Tracker to keep track of all the events you participate in this year! (PS: You can check out the Tropical Bookcation and Apple Orchard themes too!)

It's so much fun to see the sheets fill up as the year goes on and helps you feel accomplished as you complete each one!

Our readathon set will come with two pages (pictured above) and it's everything you need to track the readathon! The objective is to collect all the chess pieces by the end of the week.

Here's what it will look like once you're done and it's all filled in.

The rest of the stickers on the second sheet of the set is for your sidebar. Here's an example of how I use them in my planner.

And finally, the set has a few of our new reading achievement stickers you can put in your layouts! I did make a change to the design for these from older reading challenges, so you're not imagining that they look different! These cut a bit more consistently than the old version.

I made some new deco dashboards for our last reading challenge release and you guys LOVED them so I made some new ones for this week. We have two that match this theme and the vibe and one that's just a more general design. These are GREAT for placing on pages in your journal where you have one blank page and you need something there but you aren't sure what.

I also designed some new quote sheets that I wanted to show you! These are great for adding to book review pages or your weekly layout when you need to take up space! If you guys like them, I might be able to make some new version too (though I will need your help brainstorming quotes so start finding your favorites!)

I decided to make them in the theme colors along with a pastel rainbow color palette that will fit your other themes this year.

Here's how they look in your weekly layout. The quotes are all different sizes so you can use them in various ways and through multiple types of planners.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

  • Do you have to buy stickers to participate in the readathon? No, our events are all free to participate in but having the stickers make them a lot more fun!
  • Do you have to read 5 books in one week? Absolutely not! You can read 1 book that covers all 5 prompts if you want or you can read 1 book for each prompt or any other number of books and have them cover as many prompts as you like.
  • Do you have to read a certain genre? Not at all! I like to try to pick books that fit the theme but sometimes I'm just not in the mood for that genre or vibe so I'll pick another type of book that I am in the mood for and let the kit theme be just for fun.

We have a few other releases too! I know this blog post so I'll just dump a few pics here so you can see! Be sure you scroll to the end of this post though, because I'll be sharing something else fun too!

We have a new "Twilight" inspired weekly kit and reading challenge that are great for your next re-read along with some new functional sheets that are perfect for any book lover and we will also have ten new vinyl stickers (not pictured) that will be great for adding to your kindle or laptops!

Now, I promised one more surprise and here it is - we'll be having a sale for the first seven hours of this release! I'll be sharing more details on the day everything goes live, but definitely make sure to stop by the shop in the first 7 hours and if it goes well -- who knows? We might do this more often!
